In order to create a connector between the City of Davenport and City of Bettendorf, V&K worked on the The Veterans Memorial Parkway Improvement project to transform a rural gravel road into a 2.8-mile, multi-lane roadway. The cities’ intent was to provide an improved east/west corridor, reducing future congestion and promoting development, as well as utilizing innovative stormwater solutions through the depressed median’s bioswale.
The V&K team completed preliminary design of the roadway alignment and the environmental assessment. The project included four phases of construction over a four-year time frame, three separate focus areas and five combinations of alternatives. We developed alternative vertical and horizontal alignments, working with cities, landowners, and the public to gain approval. Two sections were designed and constructed at the same time frame, and V&K coordinated with the alignment, profile, and phasing of each section. The Forest Grove & Veterans Memorial Parkway Improvement project was completed in the fall of 2019.
