In December 2008, Calhoun-Burns and Associates, Inc. (CB&A) moved to their new office location at 1500 30th Street in West Des Moines, Iowa, located next door to the offices of Veenstra & Kimm, Inc.
CB&A, a subsidiary of Veenstra & Kimm, Inc., is a structural engineering firm that provides a full range of structural design including buildings, structures and bridges. With the acquisition of CB&A, Veenstra & Kimm, Inc. added a full range of structural engineering capabilities to our civil and environmental engineering expertise. CB&A has provided structural engineering on wastewater treatment plants, water treatment plants, wastewater pump stations, water pump stations, and concrete water storage facilities. CB&A provides specialized bridge and structural engineering services to federal, state, and local government; and for architects, contractors, industrial clients and other consulting engineering firms.
CB&A's design staff includes licensed professional civil engineers, licensed professional structural engineers, and engineering technicians. These key individuals are supported as required by additional technical, administrative, and clerical staff.
The firm is pre-qualified with the Iowa Department of Transportation to perform engineering services in Culvert and Standard Bridge Design, Non-standard, Non-steel Bridge Design, Steel Bridge Design, Rail Design and Railway Construction (resident inspection/engineering) as well as others.
Since the firm was founded in 1982, CB&A engineers have designed nearly 1,300 bridge and culvert projects. These assignments have varied from very large and complex custom designs to the small and/or routine standard project. CB&A has consistently delivered quality construction documents to their clients, whether it be for emergency repairs on a very tight time line or rehabilitation and reconstruction developed on a more typical project schedule.
